Clute Maternity, Newborn and Family Photographer

Clute is the town that throws a three-day party for the mosquito every July, and in 2003 a mammoth tusk turned up in a sand pit near Brazoswood High (Wikipedia). I’m Jen Duke, and I photograph maternity, Fresh 48, newborn and family sessions for Clute parents who want photos they’ll actually print.

Newborn sessions take place in my natural-light home studio in Richwood, by appointment. Fresh 48 can be at the hospital or at home, and family sessions can be at your house or an outdoor spot. Each session comes with a digital gallery for downloads and print orders.

Local to Clute

Clute life and how it fits your photo plans

Clute counted 10,604 people in 2020. It grew up around the old Calvit and Eagle Island plantations and took off when Dow and its builders arrived in the early 1940s (Wikipedia). Here’s how a few Clute things can shape your photo timing.

Mosquito Festival weekend in July

The Great Texas Mosquito Festival runs the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in July at Clute Municipal Park (City of Clute), and it has drawn about 18,000 visitors a year since 1981 (Wikipedia). If it’s a family tradition, snap the kids in the same spot each year. For a session, plan around that weekend and the July heat.

Brazoswood and back-to-school photos

Brazoswood High, T. W. Ogg Elementary, Madge Griffith Elementary and Clute Intermediate are all in Clute, part of Brazosport ISD (Wikipedia). If you’d like family photos before the school year gets busy, ask me about summer dates early, since my calendar fills months ahead.

A town built on old ground

Restwood Memorial Park sits on the site of William H. Wharton’s Eagle Island Plantation, and the mammoth found here was about 38,000 years old (Wikipedia). Kids who love dinosaurs and fossils grow out of it fast. A photo with a favorite toy or book marks that age better than any caption.

Before you book

Try these at home before your session

  1. At the Mosquito Festival or any July evening outing, wait until the sun is low. Put it behind the kids and tap their faces on your screen to brighten them.
  2. Set your newborn by a bright window that’s out of direct sun, then turn off the lamps. Mixed light makes skin look orange.
  3. Got a dinosaur fan? Let them hold the toy they won’t put down. Clute’s mammoth story is a fun reason to capture it now.
  4. On the first day of school at Ogg, Griffith or Clute Intermediate, take the photo at your front door before you leave, not in the drop-off line.
  5. Be in at least one photo a week. Prop your phone on a shelf, set a timer and sit with your kids.

Where I work

If you’re after something to do with visiting family, the Clute Library is part of the Brazoria County Library System (Wikipedia) and makes an easy rainy-day stop with little ones.

Not at all. I have over 15 years of experience and keep sessions relaxed. A past client said I was “very patient” and “did not rush the session at all.”
