Texas City Maternity, Newborn and Family Photography

The Texas City Dike runs about 5.3 miles into Galveston Bay and claims to be the longest human-built fishing pier on Earth (Texas Highways). It was first built of wood in 1915 and later reinforced with granite. I’m Jen Duke, and I photograph maternity, Fresh 48, newborn and family sessions for Texas City parents who want photos of the early years they can print and keep, with mom in the frame too.

Newborn sessions are in my natural-light home studio in Richwood, by appointment. Fresh 48 can happen in the hospital or at home, and family sessions can be at your home or outdoors. Every session includes a digital gallery for downloads, sharing and prints.

Local to Texas City

Planning photos in a Texas City with 42 parks

Texas City grew from 45,099 people in 2010 to 51,898 in 2020, and the city runs 42 parks along the southwest shore of Galveston Bay (Wikipedia). Texas City ISD serves most of the city, and Dickinson ISD serves other parts (Wikipedia). Here is how a few things about Texas City can shape your photo plans.

Breezy mornings on the Dike

There’s a big playground at the base of the Dike, about three-quarters of a mile of beachfront and miles of hike-and-bike trails (Texas Highways). Mornings out there can be bright and breezy. For your own photos there, stand with your back to the breeze so hair blows away from faces, and go early before it gets hot.

Music Fest by the Bay at Nessler Park

Nessler Park covers 55 acres and hosts the yearly Music Fest by the Bay, and Bay Street Park adds another 45 acres (Wikipedia). With that much park space, it’s easy to grab a quick family photo on a weekend walk. Look for open shade near trees in the hour before sunset.

Prenatal care in town, delivery at Clear Lake

HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland in Texas City has a Women’s Center for prenatal care, and its labor, delivery and newborn care happen at sister hospital HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake in Webster (HCA Houston Healthcare). Fresh 48 photos happen in the first two days, in the hospital or at home. Put your hospital in your inquiry and I’ll tell you what I can do.

Phone photo tips for Texas City parents

  1. At the Dike playground, shoot from low, at your kid’s eye level, and keep the wind at your back.
  2. On a Nessler Park walk, stop in the shade of a tree an hour before sunset for one family photo.
  3. Bring the hospital bag photo list: tiny hands, feet, the name card and the going-home outfit.
  4. At home, turn off the overhead light and set the baby near a window that isn’t in direct sun.
  5. Take one picture of yourself holding the baby every day. Ask your partner, or prop the phone on a shelf with the timer.
