Damon Family Photos, From Newborn Days to Eighth Grade
Damon sits on State Highway 36 next to Damon Mound, which at 144 feet is the highest point in Brazoria County. It’s a community of about 436 people, between Needville and West Columbia. I’m Jen Duke, and I take bump photos, hospital photos, newborn photos and family photos for Damon families who want these years printed, with mom in the pictures too.

Local to Damon
A small town on the mound and your family photo plans
Samuel Damon settled here in 1831, and the town was called Damon Mound until about 1895. Damon ISD teaches kindergarten through eighth grade, and high schoolers go on to Needville High School (Wikipedia). Here’s how a few Damon things fit into planning photos.
The hill on the salt dome
Damon Mound rises over a shallow salt dome, giving about 80 feet of relief above the flat coastal plain (Bureau of Economic Geology). Most of the county is flat, so a big sky is easy to find. For your own photos, put the horizon low in the frame and take them in the last hour of daylight.
Eighth grade is a big milestone
Because Damon ISD ends at eighth grade and students head to Needville High under a contract dating back to 1949 (Wikipedia), the last day at Damon is its own milestone. Take a photo on the same front step on the first day of every school year, from kindergarten on.
Near the San Bernard River
The San Bernard River runs about two miles from Damon and the Brazos about eight (Wikipedia). If you head out with the kids for your own photos, look for open shade under trees and skip the midday sun.

Before you book
Simple photo habits for Damon parents
- On flat, open land, wait for the hour before sunset and keep the sun behind the kids.
- On the first day of school at Damon, take the photo in the same spot every year through eighth grade.
- Near the river, look for open shade at the edge of the trees, not deep under them where it gets dark.
- At birthday parties, take one photo of the birthday kid before the cake comes out, while their face is still clean.
- Get in the picture. Hand your phone to someone once a day.

How early do I need to book newborn photos?
In your second trimester. Newborn spots are limited and usually booked months ahead.

Yes. You get a digital gallery of edited images to download, order prints from and share online in high resolution.
