Alvin Newborn and Family Photos, From Fresh 48 to Fall Cards

Alvin was incorporated in 1893, which makes it the oldest incorporated town in Brazoria County. I’m Jen Duke, and I photograph maternity, Fresh 48, newborn and family sessions for Alvin parents who want real photos of these years, the kind you print and hang, with mom in them too.

Newborn sessions are in my natural-light home studio in Richwood. Fresh 48 can happen at the hospital or at home, and family sessions can be at your house or outside. Each session ends with a digital gallery you can download and order prints from.

Local to Alvin

How Alvin's parks and farms fit into your photo plans

Alvin grew from 24,236 people in 2010 to 27,098 in 2020. It was first going to be called Morgan, after Santa Fe Railroad worker Alvin Morgan, and took his first name when that one was taken. Nolan Ryan grew up here and lived in Alvin until 2003 (Wikipedia). Here is what that small-town life means for planning your photos.

Carved trees and covered pavilions

National Oak Park sits behind the old train depot and has covered pavilions, a playground and tree sculptures of owls and birds, carved from trunks left by a tropical storm as part of the Alvin Art Trail (TravelAwaits). Covered spots like those give soft light for quick phone photos of the kids, even at midday.

A pond and a playground for toddlers

Briscoe Park covers 42 acres, with a fishing pond, a walking trail and an all-inclusive playground (TravelAwaits). Toddlers smile more when they get to run first. If you plan a family session, tell me what your kids love to do, and let them burn off energy before the photos start.

Fall at the farm and holiday cards

Froberg’s Farm has pick-your-own fruit, vegetables and flowers by season, plus a fall festival each year (TravelAwaits). If you want new family pictures for holiday cards, send your inquiry in late summer, since my sessions often book months ahead.

Before you book

Simple phone photo ideas for Alvin families

  1. Stand the kids under a covered pavilion at National Oak Park and step back so you shoot toward the open side. The roof blocks the harsh sun and their faces stay bright.
  2. At Briscoe Park, go about an hour before sunset and put the pond behind your family. The low sun makes the water glow instead of glare.
  3. On a pick-your-own day at Froberg’s Farm, get down to your toddler’s height and photograph small hands holding fruit or flowers.
  4. At home, turn off the lamps and lay your newborn on a light blanket near a window. Window light is softer than any bulb.
  5. Hand the phone to someone else once in a while. You want photos of you with your kids, not only photos of them.
